A Parakeet was found in a state where its wings were trimmed and unable to take flight.

A sunny day in Mumbai makes it hectic for Mumbaikars to deal with their daily schedules and the humid weather here adds up to the heated rage! However, unlike everyday, this day shimmered a bit of sunshine instead of heat with a sudden obscurity.

When Wildlife enthusiast, Kunal Habde received information about Parakeets caged in some houses in Jogeshwari (East), he immediately informed the forest department about the same. Spreading Awareness on Reptiles and Rehabilitation Program (SARRP India) NGO and Wildlife Welfare Association (WWA) NGO formed teams with the Forest Department for the rescue. Professionals came together with the intention of rescuing the Parakeets.

A Parakeet was found in a state where its wings were trimmed and unable to take flight.

Total 6 Parakeets, including 2 Alaxanderine Parakeets (Psittacula eupatria) and 4 Rose Ringed Parakeets (Psittacula Krameri) were rescued and awareness was created among the locals in that area. They understood the situation and cooperated with us by handing over the Parakeets.

According to Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, caging any indigenous animal is illegal.

On a good note, local residents of the area are now trying to create awareness in their surroundings & nearby areas, as well as amongst their friends and relatives about animal abuse, and the law for protecting them.

Such mishaps are related to many animals are encountered in India. The count is endless. We, humans, must act responsible by stopping animal abuse and cooperating and supporting wildlife conservation.
