On 26 September 2017 at around 10.30pm our helpline received call about a snake spotted in Shreyas Park Society, Lokamanya Nagar, Pada no. 4.
Responding immediately our rescuers Aniket Rajendra Kadam and Yatin Shitole reached the spot. They identified snake as Red sand boa and rescued it safely. Soon the intimation was given to Thane Range Forest Department.
Next day it was taken to Doctor Chariyar's Clinic and examined by doctors. It was declared fit to release and later it was released in the green zone in the presence of concerned forest Department official.
This snake is uncommon to find in Thane City area. Many times this snake becomes victim of illegal wildlife trade and often used for performing black magic.
There are many superstition regarding this snake which known as "DOUBLE ENGINE" or दà¥à¤¤à¥‹à¤‚डी साप. Some of them are as follows:
1. It has 2 heads.
2. It walks for 6 months from one side and rest six by other side.
3. It helps to find the hidden treasure underground.
All this beliefs are false and mostly derived from snakes appearance and its behavior. It tail looks almost similar to its head for its protection from predators. It prefers to live in loose soil and spends maximum time under soil.
We must protect this beautiful species from illegal trade.
